I removed my oil fill cap and noticed a little scratch on the lobe. I only have 600 miles on my first run of GC. What causes the scratches? My car has 3000 miles on it. The scratch was not there when I changed the oil. I always look inside the valve cover.

How many miles on the vechile? Is it surface scratch etc?????? With out seeing it I would guess some dirt got past the filter and their you go! If their are lots of scratch's and it looks like it is flakeing away then you have a heat treatment issue. If it looks like it is gualing then it is probably lube related!

It was big, whatever it was, if so easy to see with the naked eye. Probably gone as well, either permanently settled at the bottom of the sump and/or drained out, or trapped inside an oil filter. Very likely a past-tense problem.

I wonder what fell in this time.

A bumble bee once flew into my oil filler hole and never made it back out. I could hear him hum for a few seconds, then there was only silence...

I can see it now:

Al 3 ppm
Fe 1 ppm
Pb 0 ppm
Bumblebee 26 ppm

"A high level of bumblebee was detected in this sample. While this can potentially clog oil passages, we think the problem is only temporary. Recommend that you replace the oil filler cap and retest at next interval."

Heaven knows what Terry would say
