After hearing different distributors say it`s no longer made,I gave Pennzoil a ring. They said it`s still being made, but no one wants to stock it because the demand for GL4 is so small. He said Pennzoil Conventional and synthetic GL4`s are in current production, but the auto parts stores don`t want to stock it because the demand for GL4 isn`t large enough. He said the best easy to obtain GL4 gear oil would be Amsoil.

How many Amsoil GL4 gear oil users do we have here on BITOG? How well is your manual transmission performance with it? There`s a guy here who keeps it on the shelf so I`m seriously thinking about giving it a shot.

Amsoil makes some very good gear oils and if you can get from a local retail outlet I would not hesitate giving it a try. The Pennzoil Gear Plus GL4 is a very good product, but there is nothing magical about it.

Sorry things did not work out for you.

Wow - that's an endorsement from a GREAT company!

There are a LOT of MTG GL-4 users on BITOG if my sales are any indication. A search may help. No ill reports.

Be sure to have your guy with Amsoil thank the BITOG Amsoil sponsor.

REDLINE MT-90 very good GL-4 as well . That's fairly common and less than $12 a quart . Here's the toll free phone number : 1-800-624-7958 , very helpful and curteous . GOOD LUCK

aquariuscsm, unbelievable I was told the exact opposite from Pennzoil and a distributor up here said Pennzoil told him the same thing that GearPlus GL4 was discontinued and the synthetic is the only GL4 the sell. Did they say specifically the GearPlus and not the Synthetic?

Do you have the contact that you spoke with that said that they still make the GearPlus GL4? The distributor up hear in Pa. said that if I can get a contact for him at Pennzoil, then he will order me some and stock up his shelves with it. Said he doesn't have a contact that can get him the GL4. thanks

SR77, tell your distributor the APC numbers for ordering or as follows:

12/1 quart case 80W-90 GL4 - APC 21176

12/1 quart case 75W-90 GL4 - APC 56076 (this is the synthetic)

If he is a Pennzoil/Shell distributor he does not have to call anyone. When he places his regular order add either of these APC codes to the order.

thanks Johnny. I have matched the 21176 code with the distributor and thats when he said that he was informed by Pennzoil that it was discontinued and I told him it was still posted on their website. So he told me if I could find a contact at Pennzoil that can get it to give him a call back and he will order it. So I called Pennzoil to confirm and they also told me it was discontinued. Guess its who you talk to, but if it is still produced then I would love to find a contact that can ship some up here!

I am using the Amsoil GL-4 75W-90 and have to say it is excellent. Shifting is as good or better than the Redline and I can get the Amsoil more easily and less expensive.
