Calculating S&P 500 rate of return?

It's a shame that HR (whoever within HR) is responsible for picking a 401K administrator goes with that type of a deal. I've seen some truly silly fee structures for 401Ks, ESPPs, HSAs.
The first thing I did when I became a partner was to change our 401K. We were with American Funds paying ridiculous fees for the investments plus AUM fees to the advisor and getting hosed by the TPA too. Now the advisor is a flat fee, the TPA is a fraction of the cost, and investment options are all low-cost Vanguard mutual funds like VTSAX. We even have a nested brokerage account option that allows me to buy anything I want in my 401k through Charles Schwab.

There is NO reason for anyone to pay high fees for a 401K other than ignorance by the person selecting the 401k.
