Question: How important is the bypass rating on an oil filter?

I have been looking at different filters for an application and they can vary from 8psi to 15 psi. The prefered range for my engine seems to be 8-11psi. Am I risking anything by running a filter with a bypass rating of 12-15psi?

Thanks in advance!!

That means that your engine needs a generic bypass setting. Wix is 8-11 ...Purolator is 12-16. Both spec a filter for your engine. It limits the stress that the media sees. Use whatever you want.

Bypass valves prevent engine starvation during oil pump relief events.

Bypass valve settings tend to be there to protect the media from too much PSID.
