I have a question for you guys who are well educated on off-road Diesel in Texas. It looks like to buy it, you need to be authorized, and to be authorized you must be a business?

So as a regular consumer, I cannot buy it, I must purchase on-road diesel and then file the paperwork to get a refund on the tax (Fun!)

Is that the case? Any tips and tricks?

Wow, that is wild. Here in PA/MD there's lots of places that sell offroad that you just self service yourself. Great for topping off your home heating oil tank when you don't need a full load at the end of winter.

Yes, I know this doesn't have much to do with the original topic (sorry OP), but I thought it was wild the differences between states like that.

Yeah, I kinda figured it would be like that!

Wanna mail me some? :p

So no FEIN number? Thats what tripped me up
box for no FEIN. There is enough space for SSN, but I think there is another section for SSN.

also a not so quick tip, get yourself a "food grade" 55 gallon barrel from FB marketplace. It probably had coconut oil in it. Empty it. Strap it down in the back of the truck on a pallet with a few ratchet straps, go fill it, bring back, use that fancy gantry to unload onto your HF mover dolly.

Alternatively, buy 2 barrels, use a 12 volt pump to transfer to the other barrel that is already ground level. I may do this in the future myself but I have a bit of diesel to burn through before I need to refill.

I just couldn't justify an expensive transfer tank like other folks buy. Know you are hauling 55x8lbs of liquid so dont drive fast or turn like speedy Gonzalez. Treat the barrel with your choice of Howes, hot shots, etc.

HF sells manual barrel pumps that has the same thread as the barrel, then transfer to a 5 gallon. https://www.harborfreight.com/barrel-pump-56816.html

Buy a farm.

I don't think, here in N.C, that we have separate tanks of diesel for off road use. If so, I've not come across any stations that do. I believe farmers get a discount and use same diesel as cars/trucks do. I use it for my small tractor and pay full price.

I find it very interesting you have to go through that much hassle for off-road diesel in the great state of Texas. I would have never guessed that.

We have a station that sells it 5 miles from our house where you can buy it just like anything else.
