i've begun receiving spam emails from bureau veritas for oil analysis services. a quick search didn't yield any results. are they a known lab or did they acquire an existing?

Yes, they have labs (in Oz). Labs that they bought on the purchase go round.
We've used them for condition monitoring at work as they've aquired companies.
