Brightstock Question

Hi all, I have seen a guy mention Brightstock on the forum recently and I have seen an Australian oil Company advertise that there oils contain it. So I was just wondering what is it and is it good stuff or bad stuff?

if you search on Birghtstock, you'll find a few threads on it.

I'm not sure what I think on the stuff, but I beleive that Moreys and Lucas are pretty heavily dosed with it.

Penrite count it as a major selling point.

Brightstock is simply a heavy distillate (high molecular weight fluid) and is used mostly in mineral oils (especially gear lubes) to thicken the oil to a target viscosity.

Check the "Interesting Articles" thread on Gear Lubes and you will see some mixtures that use brightstock.
