97 skylark, just 2 days ago when here in michigan we got nailed with a bunch of snow my red brake light and amber abs light popped on and wont go off. the brakes still seem to work fine but not sure if its just a pesky dummy light problem or a serious one [as lack of brakes usually are

anyway i was told check my wheel speed sensor ? and an abs sensor where are these or should i just take it in cause of it being a difficult job[i dont have much knowledge on brakes] or can this be from the extreem cold and snow as of late?

Check the switch that activates the lights. It's either a spring-loaded switch at the brake pedal or a pressure-activated switch somewhere in the braking system, either the master cylinder or abs unit. It should be easy to find -- just keep disconnecting wires until the brake lights go out.

You probably have a sticky (arthritic) switch that just gives up in the cold.

Often times the brake or abs light will come on when you are low on brake fluid.

You can top off for now, but, low brake fluid indicates worn pads, or a leaking system.
