Bought my son his first car: 2006 G35X sedan. Questions...

Interesting none of mine did or do, (vq30/35/56) but they all shear oil like puppy going at the Sunday times.
It's mainly the rev up motors, but by this point, most of them have enough miles and wear to have an appetite for oil.

One of my VQ40's (which is just a stroked VQ35) in my sig now has 412,000 on it, no oil usage. The other one only has 220,000 or so - none on it either.

I think plenty of them get passed around like a you know what and the oil never changed - so maybe that is why the perception of oil burn.

I had a 2011 G37S Sedan with a manual transmission. It had the VQ37HR(High Rev). Was an oil burner from when I bought it at 28K till I sold it at 99K. Probably should have warrantied it, but never got around to it. Not a great sounding engine either, but it was quick.

The rev-up's had a legitimate issue:
Reference TSB# NTB07-088c and ITB008-002.

But I agree -- many of the examples remaining today are not well taken care of.

Mostly what I said in post #15 - the "high performance version with low tension rings and no governor". I forgot they called it the Rev up. They were not wildly common, I think only 2 years here?

In general I don't think a lot of these cars are well loved, and if they make it to a quick change place annually there likely lucky.

I just about talked myself in to buying a I think 2008 M45 I bumped into a year ago - it was minty and only like $10K. Decided I have enough projects.

I hope it serves you well @hardcore302 , I loved my '07 Maxima, here it is after I restored it. It was neglected by the previous owner:

Have you gotten the shock from your insurance agent yet ? 😂 Just for fun, I had my agent run the numbers by moving our daughter from a '12 Civic to my '08 G35X and it was outrageous what they charged to have her as the primary driver on it.
