2007 BMW 750Li with 112K miles. How good is the OEM BME TPT 0w30 LL-1FE oil for my car? I love my car and I am planning on keeping it for few more years. I keep reading on the forums that FE oil is not good for older BMW's with high miles, and that a thicker oil (such as PP 0w40) might offer more protection? My car does not burn oil and is mechanically in very good condition.

For N62? Stick to thick W40! PP Euro 5W40 is good oil, Castrol 0W40, Mobil1 0W40. In N62 you really do not need updated LL01. You can run anything MB229.5, Porsche A40. Price wise, in Wal Mart best bang for a buck are Castrol and Mobil1 0W40.
If it is leaking oil everywhere, do nto shy away from Mobil1 10W40 HM.

Yes, it is LL-01.

I can have an oil change at the dealer basically for $10, but I was wondering if their "new" 0w30 will be good for my older engine.

With FCP, you only pay once for the oil change kit. After that, the oil change kits are free (or you just pay for shipping $15-$20).
I bought that exact oil from FCP Euro. I did not like it. My car burned more oil and the engine sounded a little bit louder. When I went back to dealer oil (BMW TPT 5W30), the car did not burn any oil and the engine sounded smooth and quiet.

I will probably just give the TPT 0W30 since my dealer is basically doing it for free. In the summer I will probably use the PP 5W40 I already bought.

And we know that since FCP introduced that, and people always parachute here with that.
Who cares, this is oil forum, not forum how to save $1.

TPT 5W30 is really, really good stuff. It is step up from anything Liqui Moly offers.

Just to follow up. I ended up changing my oil from BMW TPT 5w30 to Pennzoil Euro 5w40. I have driven my car about 800 miles since, and I am very happy with it. One thing that I noticed is the disappearance of "timing chair rattle" on cold start ups. The engine continues to idle very well, as it did with the BMW TPT oil. Overall, I am glad I went with Pennzoil. It's definitely pricey, but I think it will be good for the N62 engine.

It is just bit thicker version of TPT. TPT is pretty thick, almost 10W30. Both are made by Shell and both are GTL based. One thing is that TPT 5W30 probably has more robust ZDDP package.

Just a FYI. The FE oils aren't really thin. They're just thinner than the non-FE spec.

LL01FE has a hths of about 3.2 and for example M1 5w-30 is at 3.0 & M1 5w-30 HM is at 3.3
