1. What kind of vehicle you have
2003 BMW 330XIa

2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well
Dont really know since I havent recieved the car yet... But as far as I know, LL-01 is the way to go

3. Where you live
Norway, can get to about -10c in the winter, +25 in a good summer day

4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)
Easy usually with the occasional sprint. I always let the car get warm.

5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?)
Short trips to and back from work, usually 15-20 mins twice a day.

6. Whether your car has any known problems
None.

I like to take care of my cars, so I tend to change oil every 5-7000 km.

Suggestions appriciated!

I would say M1 0w-40, but you guys over there probably have easy access to a bunch of other oils that are good and that would work in your application.... Castrol Edge, Motul, etc. But you're right, anything meeting the LL-01 spec will work just fine.

Welcome to BITOG!

Trazor. Use any brand name synthetic 5w30/0w30
that meets the BMW LL-01 spec and you will be fine.
Our winter climate in Southern Canada is about the same
and I've never had any problems. I also change my oil around
8000 km (yearly in spring). Enjoy the car.

Thanks for your replys! Looks like Castrol 5w-40 is the safest bet.
Or should I be looking for ester based oils?

With the way you drive your Bimmer, the climate and short OCI you certaining don't require or would benefit in any way from using a 40wt oil.
An oil meeting the BMW LL-01 FE 0W-30 spec' would be a good choice but any light 0W/5W-30 A1/B1, A5/B5 synthetic oil would also be a good oil choice.
