I found out is is possible for a rubber seal to fail on a high pressure line into a GM steering box on a hydroboost system. The hydroboost system uses the power steering pump to provide pressure to both the power brakes and power steering. It can get spookey if you lose pressure. I had a slow but significant leak where the high pressure hose enters the steering box.

I backed out the fitting, removed the torn rubber seal and replaced it with a new one. So far it works well. Here is a photo of the fitting where the silver line enters the box. ( it’s much cleaner now than before).

The hydroboost is a common replacment for the power brake booster on C3 Corvettes. It can be difficult to get a decent pedal in these cars if you don't have the carb idle mixture at or near max vacuum.
I hear the improvement is night and day. And it is an easy swap.
