Took the oil fill cover off my 97 Avalon and put my hand on it, there was some air puffs coming out, but didnt seem excessive for 150k miles. However, now I know why the oil always reeks of gas.

If your oil reeks of gas, its probably coming in from an injector or cold start device. Then it washes out your rings and causes blow-by.

would it be worth it to drop a bottle of fuel system cleaner in there, I tend to think of those along the lines of snake oil...

ANK! Wrong impression. Get a good one. Amsoil PI ..Gumout Regane (yellow clear bottle) ..The lighter duty (former $1.95 stuff) ..leave that on the shelf.

well the oil reeking of gas means something is getting by the rings of valve guide seals. probably not that bad though. could always do a compression/leakdown test. how long an oci? maybe your o2 sensor needs replacing, car might be running rich.

My TL has nothing coming out of the oil fill hole. It may be the type of PCV setup.
