Blocking off the oil filter port on a motor.

This may seem like an odd question but it has a point. I have a 1988 for Escort EXP with a very stout ford CVH H.O. motor. I was going to swap he dizzy over to a EDIS ignition system. The best way to do this is by installing a second gen US escort under drive crank pulley, oil pump and crank trigger. It all bolts on and the under drive crank pulley is the same size as the first gen rank pulley. BTW the crank trigger mounts on the oil pump hence the different oil pump.
Only problem is that the second gen oil pump has a spot for the oil filter wile on the pump wile the first gen motor has the filter on the block.

This setup wold lead me to having two oil filters. Would anyone have any advice on block or by passing the oil filter port on the block ? I'm guessing the simple fix would be to run two filters. But I'd like to get rid of the filter on the back of the block as it sit right above the exhaust.

Thanks for the help.

Interesting one... EXP, not many of those left...I remember test driving one when I graduated college.

Maybe a remote adapter plate with a 'u' tube? I'd want to be completely sure of the oil flow with the new pump and filter vs. the original port though.

You are right, I had two until recently, I know a guy that keeps track of them, less then a 100 on the road according to him
Mine is a track car so its not in those numbers.

I was thinking of something like that but something more self contented as the oil filter sets right above the exhaust

Wow only 100 on the road. That makes it quite rare for sure. I remember seeing a few of those on the road but not very many.

I don't recall if my EXP was a 1984 or 85, but it had the 5MT and a pretty nice interior for a base model with no A/C or power options. It was pretty rusted out when my sister gave it to me in 1989. I had 4 people in it many times even though it was a 2-seater.

If the new oil flow path does not require flowing through the path of the original filter, then you could use the adapter plate and plug the in/out ports...all metal solution. If it does require through flow, then maybe do the same, but open up a channel between the in and out from the block. You are getting into test pilot territory here:)

Rust killed most escorts back in the day. my second EXP had to be scraped due to rust, the whole floor pan and rear suspension fell out of the car.
nice avatar BTW

Run two filters.
From the sounds of it that is what I"m going to do.

Post some pictures of this beast, we all like pics!
Right now the car is all apart. I'm swapping to a GT trans, better suspension and welding up some holes in the floor pan, But I can post photos at some point.

The rear shock towers rusted to the point the right rear shock poked through on mine. When my sister originally bought the car 2-3yrs old it had all kinds of rust spots. She was on a budget, got it cheap and had a body fix shop the rust at the time. The body got taken care of one more time a couple years later during very minor collision work. Even with all that, it was still crusher material at ~7yrs/old.

Use a remote filter adapter, but instead of a 'U' pipe, take advantage of it and use it to run an oil cooler.
Wow now thats an idea, its a race car so find that idea to be great.

From what I know the rear shock towers like to rust out, the way they are make allows water to be held up inside them so it rots from the side out.
