Bleeding Brakes - what's the most effective way?

My wife and I had a pretty good thing going where I would open the screw, wife would push the pedal down, I would close the screw, and she would let the pedal up. Repeat and check the resovoir once in a while.

Somebody told me this is BAD, because you are pushing the master cylinder piston further than it normally goes, thereby damaging the seals.

This made a lot of sense to me, so I bought a Mity-Vac. Haven't used it yet but look forward to it!
 
Get a 4' piece of 1/4" ID clear tubing and a can. Crack the bleeder a 1/4 turn, put the end of the tube on it and into a can. Start the car and pump away. Quick, easy and air free for one person. 15 pumps per wheel and fill the MC after every 10 pumps. Be sure to siphon out the MC first and refill with new fluid so you are not dragging all that old fluid through the brake system. YMMV
