A homemade + half pounder bison burger with Monterey Jack, onions, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato and beet root on a roll. That was tonight's dinner. I ate that with also homemade potato salad and washed it all dow with half a bottle of Merlot.

Used to eat water buffalo when it was available in restaurants in town...would love to try bison.

Can't get 'roo inside the front door.

As far as the Merlot goes...how about some Cotes Du Rhone?....

The beet root on my burger was made from the brother of this one:

I just cut the four sides off to get a cube of beet root. Easy to slice that way.

Good, tinned beetroot is the devils food. Fresh roasted organic beetroot is a different matter. I'd eat at your house and I sure couldn't say that about the majority of American households.

I hope my beetroot shoot.

And the (heritage) kale advertised that it would grow under snow. I hope the weekend's snow helps the seeds to grow...never had kale afore.

Organic Express delivered us the most amazing kale still dripping with dew. Never seen a vegetable or fruit for that matter so fresh. The rainbow chard was nealy as good. Even though I'm unemployed Organic Express will continue to be our vegetable/fruit suplier. I hope all supermarkets go broke!

My favorite mushrooms are boletes, especially those of the porcinin variety, and chanterelle, which are great with almost any kind of egg dish. I like champignon field mushrooms and I don't even mind their farmed version, the common white and brown crimini. I don't care for shi'take and oyster mushroom. I love mushrooms in sauces, and creamy mushroom stew with potato or bread dumplings is one of my favorite dishes.
