It is penicillin, but not from the original discovery. The Penicillins and cephalosporins are all good antibiotics. Most Antibiotics are effective because they inhibit the biosynthesis of vital parts of the bacteria's cells walls. Some bacteria have become resistant to certain antiobiotics by producing a specific enzyme called a beta-lactamase. AUGMENTTIN is an antiobitic which contains a beta-lactamase inhibitor and penicillin. Moldy Mary's fruit was actually a cantaloupe instead of a grapefruit. The discover was important because it was the first example of a Penicillium that could be grown in suspension culture.
