Stories like this have been posted before. It looks like the snakes are getting bigger. This one swallowed a 76 pound deer. It could have been a 76 pound kid (if the snake got into a residential area.

They need to start having a competition to who can kill the largest one. Have some type of boone and crockett scale or something like it and a small cash reward with your photo published.
They are invasive species that are one of the leading causes of other species growing endangerment.
Once the marketing and bragging rights come around then you will have people setting up shop as guides and tourism for such a thing.
Kind of like the Asian Carp up the Mississippi, and our wild pig issue here in Texas.
No license, no limit, no problem.

Dont ya just love it when an exotic pet gets released in a suitible envirnoment and is allowed to mate....Yay for exotic pet ownees...... FAIL!!

I do not think this will be such a big issue. Large snakes are very vulnerable to automobiles on roads. There will be a few of these big guys, but not too many.

Cold weather will keep them from moving very far north. A snake this big, caught in the open during a cold snap, is food for any bear or coyote that comes around.

This one made the news because she was exceptional. Domestic dogs will always kill and main people far more often than any wild animal, introduced or not.

If these snakes ever get numerous, some commercial use could perhaps be found for them.

Leave the poor things alone. Live and let live. Now regarding the human pestilence - what do we do about that?

I'm not sure who's more vulnerable if the snake just ate a deer like the one in the pic. You hit it with a car, you might just fly off the road and die! The invasive snake species problem in Florida is mind blowing!

Whoa! We took some wedding pics with a 12 ft python. Looking back, I can't believe my wife convinced me to do it. Made for great photos though.

I read somewhere that a non-native type of snake wiped out a bird population on an island. Not sure if this could happen in the Everglades but I'm sure its not good.

Leave those darn things alone!

There has NEVER been proof that a large snake has ever eaten a person - this idiotic hype that these things eat people is hollywood fantasy.

I don't know there exact stats, but I'm sure wild Pythons like these are endagered...but people kill them b/c 'oh, they might eat a child!

Far more people die every year from being bitten by poisonous snakes than constrictors....Mamba's get a lot of people in remote jungles.

Other than the two year old girl in Sumter County, Florida who was killed in June of 2009 by the families "pet" python while she was in her crib. Since pythons normally don't kill for fun, and there were bite marks on her head and face, the coroner indicated the python was probably going to try to consume her.

Or possibly the three year old toddler in Las Vegas in January of 2009 who was killed by a python who was probably going to make a meal of him before the mother discovered the snake and dead child, and had to cut the snake with a knife in order to get it to release the body.

And while there are not a lot of cases of people actually eaten by boa constrictors, there are a lot of cases where people that own and handle them are killed.

These Burmese pythons are a human introduced invasive species that is devastating the natural ecosystem of the Florida everglades.

Australia had a huge fox problem (introduced species), that they nearly corrected with a bounty on fox tails.

They took off the bounty, and the problem came back

These snakes are a huge problem in South Florida. They need to be eradicated and hunted.

These snakes play a major role in removal of several endangered species and are a havoc to the ecosystem.
