Getting BG for the rear diff on 2016 528i Xdrive today. Curious about feedback on the quality and potential improvement over the OEM factory fill etc.

My experience with BG products is one half step above snake oil. However, they did pay out 50% on replacing a power steering rack that started leaking with their fine, fine products installed in it. It should have been covered by BG at 100%, but they refused to... so the Chrysler dealership had to eat the other 50%. If you see any sort of improvement, I'd be shocked.

The BG products were nothing that I installed or requested, nor anything that I directly paid for. They were supposedly installed by the dealership prior to my purchase of the vehicle.

Does the BG product have the actual BMW listed certification, license or approval that's needed?

I do not believe it does but it is the only product the dealer offers, officially. There was some seepage from the diff. tech shared with me and i observed over the last year or so. I asked him how much he removed and he could not say as the measure was just "in the bucket". However, I am sure that the BG will be filled to the correct level and amount. I am hoping that it may qiuet what is perceived as driveline noise.

I would go to a different dealer. Plain and simple.

What you have there is a dealer that is so invested in making a side profit on that fluid that I would question their ability to do anything right.

The rear diff is not making any noises while underway now. I wish I knew if the fluid was low at the time it was replaced but I am very happy with the results I have now. Not a plug for BG just giving feedback as experienced. Perhaps in a passenger car differential a suitable synthetic fliuid at the proper grade is completely acceptable? Svc interval on this was 30K, 60K etc. Not sure why the original dealer bypassed this service when I was in for Oil, plugs and other things etc. My first svc to the rear end was at 108K to my knowledge.

In my past I had changed my trucks over to Amsoil Severe Gear. Towing and using the drive train under higher stress loads this seemed like a good practice.
