Hey BITOGers,
The thought occurred to me the other day, are there any other major oil manufacturers who create white label oil products under different names? We all know Warren makes oils under several other brand names (Supertech, Mag1, AmazonBasics etc) but are there any other companies who may produce a higher quality oil than the price may indicate?

Maybe get a Castrol quality product for an Auto Zone generic price

What is quality? You mean how many approvals or specifications the oil carries? That's about the only real measure you can use.

At that point go by price. What's the least expensive oil at Walmart that has Mercedes Benz 229.5 approval?

Pinnacle in Indianapolis Blends and packages alot of store brands for the c-store and travel stop business.

So all these suggestions of companies - how does it answer the OP's question of "who may produce a higher quality oil than the price may indicate?"

How many?.. somewhere between 1 & 1mill...there's literally a trade association for independent lube mfgs.

Q: what's the point of this exercise? Are you trying to find the most obscure, hard to get lube that costs .25¢ less than the more common off the shelf house brands? Heck, even house brands have a hard time competing against some of the offerings from the majors, price point wise.

My actual answer to your thinking is this..

Warren Distribution makes rather strong/good oils for the price point at which they sell at.... Dexos Gen 2 synthetic oil that sell routinely less than $3.79 a qt is not all too bad... And that is a everyday price in many places....

Super S supersyn and Cam2 made by Smitty's Supply is typically sold at that price and even cheaper at times... Dexos Gen 2 approved and exceeds API SN and ILSAC GF-5....

Amalie sells their oil through AAP and it has the exact same Dexos approved number as does their own ELixir full synthetic oil that is Dexos Gen 2 approved.... It is the same exact oil in the Carquest label as their own ELixir full synthetic... And with a oil filter combo it comes out at $3 a qt at times...

And Waaren Oil Lubrigold is a very good oil that can be had for $3.50 at quart in some stores... Again Dexos Gen 2 approved full synthetic. Nothing wrong with that either.

All these blenders get their base oils from Exxon and or Chevron... And the additive supplier can be Afton Chemical or Oronite or Lubrizol... It is not like these blenders are getting trailer park hooptyfied base oils and additives... That is why those blenders like Waaren Oil or Waaren Distribution or Smitty's Supply can put together some very good oils.

In Canada (don't know about the USA), Esso/ExxonMobil/Imperial Oil (not sure what the legal entity is exactly) sells Mobil branded full synthetic oils, that are in many ways, technically superior to the mass-marketed "Mobil-1" or "Delvac-1" line, at a dramatically lower price, under different branding targetted towards other market segments (ie: serving the industrial/agricultural sectors).

Some of these products end up being re-branded, ie: UFA (a farming supply retail co-operative) 0W-30 synthetic was just rebranded Esso/Mobil/Imperial Oil product. Petro Canada re-brands also show up under different labels, often at prices lower than the genuine Petro Canada product. Probably the same deal with Shell too (though I'm less familiar).

So if you're really savvy with spec sheets, or have some information on the source of store branded oils, at least in Canada, there can be some real deals to be had compared to manufacturer branded oils.

There's an outfit called Amtecol who's popular with the shops here in NorCal but their marketing and packaging leaves much to be desired.

Haven't even thought of Omni in years. Isn't that the (used to be owned by Quaker State) former producer of Tech 2000/ Super Tech that led to the story that ST was Quaker State, or was that another area refinery. Remember a long discussion on the subject during this board's first year.

most oil brands as noted are made by oil blenders, even overpriced scamsoil! oils carrying similar specs will be or are supposed to be quite similar, but advertising + racing support costs $$$$ hence higher pricing for those!!

Hey now, I did answer it, see my first response in this thread

I would steer clear of Super S they managed to hit the trifecta of having a motor oil, a ATF and an antifreeze that were all targets of "consumer advisories" by PQI. Their OW-20 semi synthetic had no API symbol and no starburst on the label and also had very high silicon they suspected was contamination by abrasives. That was 2016 not so long ago.
