It seems that most here at BITOG dislike 5w30 oil because it shears down more than other grades. Yet, it is one of the most often recommended weights in many cars.

So... if I wish to stay with the manufacturer's warranty recomendations, are there brands that hold up better than others? There are very few UOAs on 5w30.

What about Shaeffer blend?

A good synthetic would naturally have less VII and therefore be more stable. Generally the better the base stock the more stable so if you want a dino go with the GIIs and GII+s.(Chevron, Havoline, Motorcraft, Penzoil)

Schaeffer's 5w30 blend holds it's viscosity extremely well! It's without a doubt a much better choice over any conventional 5w30 out there. It has proven itself time and again to be almost as good as a full synthetic.
