Hi,
I get asked a lot "what are the best uses for FUCHS motor oils"

In the nearly 50 years I have been involved with lubrication this name constantly occurs
A German Company founded in 1931 as a family business it is now a Global Company

They make 100s of engine oil products so I thought I would start with Number 1

No 1 - Titan GT1 - 0w-20
This ACEA A1.B1 lubricant is suitable for most modern Euro cars recommending such a viscosity

No 2 - Titan SuperSyn - 5w-50
Meets API SJ/CF-ACEA A3,B3,-VW505,500-BMW-MB229.1-Porsche
Ideal for cars and vans with gasoline or diesel engines and with or without turbochargers

Only about 90 odd left

Regards

Wow they must have each grade in almost every cSt possible, probably in .2 cSt divisions...with 100 engine oils available...

Now Patman can get his exactly 12 cSt that his engine needs!

Hi,
as a matter of interest FUCHS oil is a factory fill for some Mercedes Benz products and at other German car plants. It is Porsche approved and all ACEA and API Approvals have been in place for years

It is a factory fill for many European light and heavy trucks, and IVECO is just one Company using it

Its products are widely used in the Mining and Industrial fields and in trucking too. Their various fluid analyses programmes are well known and respected and they operate three ISO9000 rated Company Laboratories here in Australia
They are one of if not the most experienced Company producing rapidly biodegradable lubricants and other fluids

This Euro product is sold in South America, Australia and Asia. Their Australasian operation alone turns over $A60M

It is a product with wide respect - do not knock it. This is not a "boutique" or mail order oil like some others

I do not use it but it has been around a long time - well over 30 years before Amsoil was even thought of. And making synthetic lubricants in the 1930's too!

Regards

I dream of the day when oil companys will offer custom viscosities to the exact specification their customer wants!

Boy am I embarassed...all this time I thought you all were saying Spooks motor oil...you know, "Use Spooks and your engine won't have...ummm...a ummm ghost of a chance."

Doug,
any idea what their (Fuchs) synthetic base stocks are ? particularly in their Titan Ultra MC 1040 and Titan Cargo MC 1040?
Is the term MC ('Molecularly Converted') the give away ?

Ultra MC is an API CI-4, ACEA E5 oil and is their Delvac 1 equivalent, and the Cargo MC is a CF-4, high sulphur fuel synthetic base oil.

Ultra MC's claimed specs are;

90(TYP) cSt @ 40*C
14.4 cSt @ 100*C
Vi 140 (min)
Fl Pt.228*C
Pour Pt -33*C
TBN 10.3
Sulph. Ash 1.3%
Dens. @15*C 0.87

thanks,

Rick.

Hi,
Tdi-rick - no I cannot help with the base stock details

I suspect many of their specialised oils - especially the high performance diesel oils - are ester based. I recall reading something many years ago that indicated they were leaders in that field

Their address is www.fuchs.co.au and the Melbourne phone number is 03 9300 6400

I do not use their excellent products but I wonder if their ATF SYN3 is as good as Castrol's Transmax Z which I use in a number of vehicles

I will be looking to test their Del 1 equivalent for 200kkms or so in one of my next new trucks

If it is so quickly bio-degradeable as stated it will appeal to the near shore marine users too

Thanks Doug,

If it is that bio-degradeable, that would indicate an ester base, wouldn't it ?
I phoned their Newcastle office who faxed me through the PDS's. I'll probably give them a call and see what they can tell me regarding the base.

The wifes Patrol has been serviced by the local garage through its warranty period using Fuchs Titan HD 1540 (mineral), and I am about to do a UOA on it.

I'm currently using Delvac 1 in my Landrover Defender 300Tdi but was looking to reduce the oil consumption. (1.5l/10000km, 7l sump)
However, it hasn't used as much over the last two services, which corresponds with the new CI-4 blend. (which is also cheaper, $45/5l incl. GST)

Hmm.

My first UOA report for the Defender will turn up early next week, It could be interesting.

I was tossing up between Transmax Z and ATF SYN3 as a power steering fluid, but instead went with the OEM Caltex Land Rover PAS 14315.

It'll be interesting to see your results using the Fuchs oils in your trucks. No doubt you'll post the results as they become available !

Rick

Hi,
Rick - Delvac 1 has been a very cost effective oil for me since about 1997. I have used it over millions of kms and many UOAs. I would only change after a very systematic cost-benefit analysis, and one must always keep their options open

Your oil consumption is very light

My cars are all on Del 1 CH-4, and the Subaru Outback ( 100kkms ) uses about the same as your Defender, the BMW ( 55kkms ) and Porsche ( 125kkms )use nil. My 500hp Detroit Series 60s have averaged 1ltr/6000 kms for millions of kms
and I have one at 1m kms now with its oil consumption still at about 1ltr/6000kms

I use MANN-HUMMEL ( Spinner 2 ) centrifuges in my Detroits and I think your Defender has one too - a cartridge model - fitted as standard

The FUCHS ATF will need to be good. I find Castrol's Transmax Z to be almost a "magic" fluid. I have used it in my Porsche (Auto )and BMW ( manual ) transmissions for quite a while

I have just changed all my power steering units ( cars ) over to Transmax Z and it has made a real difference to them all. All in a different way but collectively the feel is much better

Doug,

What an "infectious" type, you are! Your repeated glowing references to D1 is tempting even the GC meister to step away from "the wearing of the green." (Seems like GC should really be IC and hail from Londonderry, eh?)

Hi,
Pscholte - I like you being here again - I nearly "got on my bike" yesterday but I'll live here a little longer

Actually I am a Castrol fan at heart - just a little sad about the Corporate sell out
Frankly the German ( Euro ) range of Castrol synthetics are now priced right here and are extremely good value. The "R" 5w-30 has been recieved well and so has the "R" 0w-40
I never heard a bad report on the SLX 0w-30 SL!

Castrol's Transmax Z ATF........... oh what a wonderful elixer - if there ever was one!!

Regards

I wonder if Castrol's 0w40 will ever be offered here in North America like GC? It's possible that some BMW dealers in Canada are now selling it under a different label, although at $13 per liter it's double the price of GC, so I won't be trying it out.

Do you know anyone in your area running the 0w40 Castrol Doug? If so, could you convince them to do a UOA?
