I was wondering what would be the best dino oil to run in my 2 vehicles? I have a 98 chevy silverado with a 5.7L, and a pontiac bonneville with the 3.6 or 3.8. (can't remember off hand)

What are people's thoughts about running valvoline, havoline, or penzoil in the engines?

Havoline or Chevron Supreme in 5W-30 or 10W-30 ought to cover your needs (unless you have the turbo'ed 3.8 which MAY require something more exotic)... I just don't know.

Inexpensive (but in no way "cheap") dino oils with great performance + reasonable OCI's should = great economy and fine preventive maintenance for you.

Cheers!

Well I'm thinking of switching to Havoline as I can get it for $1.49 a quart. I've been using Valvoline, which costs me $2.00 a quart, but then again what's 50 cents less per quart? I'd only be saving a couple of bucks. Is it worth it?

Do a search in the UOA section (which I did this morning) looking for Havoline and your engine type. Havoline has a record of producing excellent UOAs. Havoline 5W or 10W30 should work well for you.

You can get a case on sale at AdvanceAuto for $12.96 after rebate. You can buy 24 quarts of Havoline for about the price of 6 quarts of M1 EP. I think this is a great value.
