I have been considering buying a new laptop, might as well get used to Windows 8. And, sure enough.. Every "tablet," "phablet," and Chromebook I see.. an actual laptop is about $50 more.

So, I was seriously considering this one. has an HDMI out for my 40" TV, and was $279 yesterday. It is an Asus, Windows 8. Asus laptop at Best Buy with Windows 8 and HDMI out 15.6"

Today, it is $299....

Standard business practice? I am unsure why this $20 increase is bothering me so much! And will it go back down? Thanks!

This is really news to you? It happens all the time, especially with electronics. Best Buy, Newegg, Amazon. etc. all do it.

If you think having the price change overnight is a big deal, try having the price change just by adding it to your Amazon cart, or simply after you log into your account.

I still want the laptop, and someone pointed out to me that today is Valentine's Day, is probably why it happened.

Do you think it will fall back down, or go "on sale?" Or, just buy it before it goes up again??...

Are you buying online or in store? If you are buying in store, explain to them (may take speaking to a manager) that it was advertised online for $279 and they may give it to you for that price.

It happens and yes it's obnoxious. Try clearing your cookies or opening a new browser in "porn mode" (Ctrl Shift P) and finding the same item.

If you keep your cookies, keep looking at that laptop. When they decide to let you have it, ads will be all over your surfing with a newer lower price.

I find stuff online all the time that I recommend to others or buy on a different computer, but b/c I don't put it in my cart and buy it, I get nagged incessantly.

Ummmm, let me get this straight.

You didnt yet do the timing belt. You absolutely destroyed at least one tire by spinning it stupidly in a snow drift. You have some kind of fluid leak under your car...

But youre going out and buying laptops?

Go fix your car.

I bought a laptop at Best Buy and it was an ordeal I wouldn't ever wish upon my worst enemy.

JHZR2, I don;t have to worry about the car anymore. That "larger picture" happened, and it had nothing to do with the car (remember "I need to have a discussion with you all" thread?) I hoped putting up a burned-out similar-looking XC would have alluded.. It is someone else's headache now, if you know what I mean.

(and FTR: The timing belt, nor anything else, broke on it. lmao)

You check Swedespeed? How is that "JRL" charachter?

I just found out that me claiming EIC is what is probably pushing back my refund!!!!! March 1st.. Sound about right?

So you're back to square one and need a car? I recommend a saturn s series or sable/taurus. Or a rear wheel drive volvo.

I'll check it out. I loved that Volvo, but, as others pointed out, there were bigger issues at play in the whole scenario.

I am looking forward to paying down my CC balances with this refund.. seems Best Buy has a good unit there. I suppose there will always be one like that.

Yeah it sucks but it happens alot with online etailers. They track supply/demand and all kinds of other stuff and adjust price pretty quick. It goes up, but it also goes down.

Pay off your CC then with the refund. It is stupid to buy new trinkets when youre sitting on CC debt. You deserve nothing. Having CC debt shows that you cant manage money well. Learn your finances and be smart about it. Get rid of your debt and you just got a 20% discount on anything you buy going forward.

Why not. How long do you think a price increase (or end of sale) should take to implement? A week?

How is it different from brick and mortar store pricing changes? You walk in one day to Walmart and the unit is on sale for $279. You come back the next day and it's now $299 because the sale ended. Do you find that strange, too?

JRL is a good guy. Deals exclusively in Volvos as his business. He buys them, fixes everything and sells them for a fair price. Very, very knowledgable about Volvos. He won't sell a car unless it is 100%. He replaces timing belts BEFORE the sale...

I want to buy my next 2000 Volvo V70 XC AWD SE from him...

I just went over to Swedespeed and apprised everyone. Some were really P/O'd at me over there; others, knew that I was using what I could, with what I could, when I could, etc.

However, I hope it is sooner rather than later that I can go westward to PA and get a car from JRL. I'd have cash in hand..

I can only imagine what he'd say when I showed up, with cash to buy a car. My guess: "Still spinning tires until they flat?" I don't know. He is a businessman and knowledgeable.. so , I do look forward to buying my next Volvo from him.

Also, yes, paying down credit card debt. Question is if I pick up a laptop from Best Buy, on the Best Buy credit card, when I do that. I don't know! Its not like I have to worry about ~$100 of gas a week anymore.

*EDIT: 1-2-3-4. Nice!
