They do not suffer from the barrel wobble like a regular AK? Sorry, I am not up to date on the platform. AK enjoyed unmatched dependability, but it never was a precise instrument.

I think, SIG556R is a move in the right direction.

The saiga's are made in the same factory in the motherland as the milspec weapons,
the 16 inch barrels are very accurate as the barrel trunnion are quite beefy.
I am not sure if we are allowed to post links to other forums but if you look for 1stmarine and saiga 308 on google you will find his posts on it.
also, Akserben, few miles south of moi, did is accuracy study with saigas.
One bit of warning will be that the 16inch 223/308 etc are VERY loud and flaming most of the time.
if you can't find the links, pm me and I will pm you links,

It would depend on what you want to use it for. The Marlin 45-70 Guide Gun is the best buy when it comes to firepower IMHO. You won't need to pull the trigger more than once if you hit what your aiming at. It WOULD be overkill for squirrels though.

Thank you I found the thread. I am afraid that 1stmarine is a bit too enthusiastic about it. Still, a good tool for what it is designed for, of course. A bit too rich at the current market prices, IMO.

Best all around hunting rifle IMHO is a 375 H&H. It will kill anything on the earth and can be loaded lighter for medium game like deer(indeed American Rifleman agreed with me and did an article a few years back). But if ya want to kill everything on earth and only have one rifle, its the best.

As far as versatile pistols, I am a 10mm or 357mag. Great self defense and hunting guns.

For me the best buy is a gun you can use for a variety of tasks and will last a very long time.

Well, I doubt anyone can argue with any of your choices. The only problem is the 375 H&H mags aren't cheap. The 45-70 can be loaded up almost to standard 375 specs but doesn't have the reach. I may have read that article because I read one on the 375 that was similar. It IS the best cartridge for "the world". The 10mm is not as popular as other pistol calibers but once again, it's the powerhouse of the bunch and a very versatile round.

They are not cheap. I know you cant buy a cheap rifle in 375H&H like you can with cartridges like the 30-06 but those 375 H&H rifles will last a lifetime versus the cheaper rifles. And you can get a CZ or a Zastava made mauser type rifle for around 8 or 9 bills which is not bad for a lifetime gun. Also if you reload its not too expensive to shoot.

hmm, I wonder which thread you read, most of this posts he will back up with photos of targets, he uses what works and is value.
Anyway, try one of them out , iga 308/223, you will be surprised.

Very true. 16" barrel length is a little too short for a .308 round. Lots of propellant being burned outside the muzzle on that setup! Big fireballs are pretty neat looking, though.
