I use Mann or Malhe "drop in" filters on my 95 BMW M50 6 cylinder engine as do most BMW owners. I refuse to use Fram. However are there better filters either mail order or OTC?

Those were the only ones I found for my 96 328. Seemed to work well but never got a UOA to go along with that, sorry.

Hengst?
Somebody bought somebody a while back? Mahle bought Mann?
Purolator's are usually reboxed Mann filters but check inside before you buy them.

Good info everyone. Dealer is not overly expensive for filters either. They are either Mann or Mahle. I will look at the Purolator when I am in a pinch.

I bought a Wix filter for my wife's 97 328i. FWIW, it does not appear to be as well built or substantial as the Mahle or Mann filters are. I'll be using the Wix for an AutoRx treatment when it comes time. I'd rather use the good filters for normal OCI's.

Mahle and Mann filters are best for BMW's. In my '95 M3 LTW, that i sometines auto-x, i always have and will use mahle or mann filters. For some reason some stores online say that mann 92-99 OEM is Mahle and 99+ OEM is Mann, but they are interchangeable. Looking at the filters mahle has a "support" around the pleats to keep them in tact, mann doesn't. According to some BMW forums, some claim that Mann has better flow than Mahle, but Mahle is "sturdier", I've never seen any proof of this though.
