Ok, I have a 2002 Honda Shadow ACE 750 and it is chain driven. The manual states to use an 80w or 90w gear oil. I have some Lucas Synthetic 75w-90 that I used after I cleaned it. I have some Bel Ray SuperClean Chain Lube that I had used on my ATV chains. Would this stuff be good to use on a motorcycle chain? It says that it is O-Ring safe. It is supposed to make a good, protective coating and keep the chain clean. Should I apply the gear oil and then put this on top of it? It is also a lube, so should I only use this after I clean the chain?

Chains don't really need much lube anymore due to o-ring seals. Dirt does the most damage now, so regular cleaning is key. The Bel Ray should be fine. I use Maxima Chain Wax myself. Use it more for other things than the chain though.

Follow the directions on the can. Most people tend to over-apply chain lube. Do that, and most of it winds up all over your wheel and bike.

Need to switch my ScottOiler over to the Ninja. With a ScottOiler, your chain stays clean and lubed and you have to adjust it less than half as often as with hand cleaning and lubing.

Clean the chain before you lube it! I would save the money and use the gear oil if the manual calls for it.

Yeah, I use WD-40 and a rag to clean it, then I spray that off with the water hose. Dry it then lube it up with gear oil. Tomorrow I'll be putting the Bel-Ray chain lube on it. I just didn't know if anyone else had tried it. It is supposed to repel dirt very well.

I use gear oil and a small paint brush to cover the chain with enough oil to just about dripping. Then I clean the three outside edges. This works as a cleaning and lubing both. Never had a drop of oil on the floor nor on the bike.
Honda says every 500 miles but I do it every 250. Like the cleaan look of the chain.

Well, I used the Bel-Ray Super Clean Chain Lube, and it really stuck to my chain. I've rode it through rainy, wet conditions and it is still on and lubing good. Just as white as the day I put it on. But, I already want to clean it and lube it again... this website has changed me forever.
