So on the way home last night, I run alongside a really cool guy. How do I know he’s cool?

He has his seat almost all the way reclined.

His cap is angled just so…

He’s laying up against the rear window (the seat is reclined a lot).

He’s got the right tunes thumpin’….

He’s so cool....

His 4 door Buick Century has a bashed in front fender with the headlight shining straight down (but still working).

The back door has been caved in for long enough to have rust streaks.

The headliner is hanging.

The tint is shredded on the rear window.

The driver’s window is held up with duct tape across the top.

He’s using a space saver mini-spare on the front.

I can’t be certain but the antenna looks to be an old clothes hanger.

At every start up he blows enough smoke to keep the ‘skeeters at bay.

But he’s so cool....I do envy him so.

Did you stop and ask him what oil he uses...er...burns?

Your illustration easily reminds me of one of my perennial favorite songs by Rush, "Kid Gloves" has excellent lyrics about all this:

"Handle with kid gloves
Then you learn the lessons
Taught in school won't be enough
Put on your kid gloves
Put on your kid gloves
Then you learn the lesson
That it's cool to be so tough

Anger got bare knuckles
Anger play the fool
Anger wear a crown of thorns
Reverse the golden rule
Then you learn the lesson
That it's tough to be so cool"

Yep, this guy's cool. At least in his own world.

ALRIGHT!! Another RUSH fan! That's what I'm talking about. Saw them in Dallas last year, I hope it wasn't their last one.
We got the same type of mentality here as well. It seems to be all about Ricers or who's got the best stereo set up. It's especially gotten worse since they did away with the State inspection requirements. I know Tennessee doesn't have one either.

Makes me think of this Rush song:
Some of us are born to rule the world and live our fantasies....
But most of us just dream about the things we'd like to be.

Sounds like that guy is probably relating to the second verse.
