I remember the primitive mechanical mannequin traffic flagger but humans still persisted when it came to traffic flagging. For those of you old enough to remember Zager and Evans lyrics...
"Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doin' that for you". Can human flaggers survive? The crappy image through my windshield during single lane operation reveals the Autoflagger, yep.... wireless operated.

For a short bridge that is long-term closed down to one lane they usually put up a pair of stoplights and a timer. This is only practical if the drivers can see that no one is coming from the other side. If it's a long section of road they really need people with radios to confirm that the last car has gone through before letting anyone go the other way.

The Autoflagger makes for poor conversations.
"Hey, is this going to take long?"
*non-committal facial expression frozen in time*
