Be careful with tire dressings!

My new Ford Fusion, bright silver in color, is now in the Dealer's body shop getting the rear bumper cover(which wraps around all the way to the fender well)replaced. It seems that when I bought the car, the dealer sent it out to have it detailed for delivery. The car looked fantastic. 3 days later, I washed the car and noticed that the tire dressing that they used had stained the paint.

I took it back to the dealer and they could not get the stains out. I refused to let them repaint the parts and made them replace the parts from another Fusion.

I probably wouldn't have noticed on a darker colored car, but this stuck out like a sore thumb. Just a warning to be careful with how much tire dressing you use. More is not always better.

Try E1 Nano Protectant. It leaves tires a nice black, with zero shine, and best of all it completely dries within 10 minutes, so there's no sling..........Try it, you will never use anything else.

When I put on tire dressing, I let it soak in for at least 10min (or overnight sometimes if possible) and then when I wash the car I spray the hose directly against the tire to remove any excess. I never get any sling off on my paint with this method, although it does reduce the shine on the tire a little bit. But with black paint you notice any sling off very easily, so it's better to have a little bit less shine on the tires.

Use Aerospace 303. Spray on then wipe off in about 10 minutes. Makes the tire look new, not pimped. Spray your wheels too, it makes it easier to remove brake dust the next time.

The tire shines that stain paint usually are comprised of silicone oils that leech into the pores of the paint. Water-based dressings won't harm paint so they're the safest bet. Look for dressings that are milky white and watery, not clear (or some strange color) and oily-feeling.

I have used just about all of Meguiars Dressing and have had no problem with stains. To prevent the sling apply the product let it sit for 10min or so then wipe off the excess.

I use Meguiars #40 for my tires and interior. The sad part about this whole thing is the detail shop that did this told the dealership to go pound salt, that they would not pay for the repair.

This has been a real ordeal. The car is still in the shop 10 days later.

They have:
1. Lost the keys.
2. Got the car mixed up with another one and used it for a parts donor(P/S pump and drive belt).
3.Put the new rear bumper facia on, not realizing that it from a 4 cylinder model without the cutouts for dual exhaust. After starting it, they saw the bumper cover melting!
4.Having to wait another 3 days for another Fusion thats the same color and a 6cyl model.


All my wife and I can do is laugh. When we got home, we were watching the news a saw that my Echo was recalled. Did I mention that my 05 Mustang GT is on it's 5th Shaker 1000 sound system, going on Number 6? I guess I won't be buying any Lotto tickets with this run of luck!

I have Black Magic foam. I still would like to get mudflaps for the impala, but I have not had any problem with slinging compounds, as like mentioned above I let the tires sit. When I used to use Water-All oops, Armor-All I would take the tire swipers and even out the runoff. After seeing the cracking of my sidewalls after three years of Armor-All I switched to other brands. Never again will I use Armor-All, even the glass cleaner.

I usually have a pretty short fuse, but this ordeal reminded me of The 3 Stooge's. Dealing with multi departments within a dealership, with one not knowing what the other is doing is actually quite funny. I guess if I didn't have another vehicle to drive, this would be a totally different matter.

I have yet to get my customer survey from Ford. Unloading on the factory guys gets more attention than being pithy at the dealership.

Funny..I spray on Black Magic foam in the evening, and the next day on my morning drive to work, it slings all down the side of my truck. I like my tires shiny and black, so I continue to spray them after each wash and just carry a couple of microfiber cloths in the truck to take care of the slung mess. Comes right off, no staining.

YIKES!!!

That story gave me hives. I can't imagine crap flining all over the side of my car on a daily basis. I slow down when there's water in an intersection!

I finally got my car back yesterday, and it looks fantastic. This ordeal took way too long, buts it done and I am happy with the results.

As far as Ford having "crappy paint", this car has the best paint I have seen on a new car in a long time. Almost no orange peel and a very good clear coat. My neighbor just bought a Nissan Pathfinder thats almost the same color and it looks horrible compared to my Fusion. The orange peel in so bad that it distorts reflections on flat panels of the vehicle.

I think that the stains came from some chemical that was in the original tire dressing that caused all this. I just got done installing new Ford mudflaps designed for the veicle. A little prevention won't hurt.

There is paint quality and there is paint application quality. Not the same thing at all.

What stuff do you use rszappa1? Do you know what someone used on my car? No, you don't. It was some chemical either on the tires or the dressing or the combination of the two that caused this, pure and simple.

While I agree that there is a difference in paint quality and application quality, the application has nothing to due with this problem. It was a chemical stain. It just happened to show up because of the color of the vehicle. This could happen to any vehicle, regardless of make. I was just the unlucky person it happened to.

Most people wouldn't have even noticed or cared.
