Battery in Grand Cherokee would not omaintain charge after recharge attempts and driving for some time. Alternator putting out 14V. So off to Autozone I went as the battery was a Durolast Gold. The counter man went out, tested, and confirmed that battery was bad. He looked mine up in his computer and confirmed that I had bought it in February 2023. He was surprised because his experience was the usually lasted longer than that. Fifteen minutes later the Jeep had a new battery with no charge to me. I gave him a small tip and was headed home. Call me happy.

Just curious but does the newly installed battery start the 3-year warranty period over or does it extend only to the end of the originally installed battery?

That is the way it should go. It is always good, as you did, to go in prepared, having already tested the alternator.

How long is the warranty?

Can't say for 100% with Autozone, but I have never had the battery warranty start over, with a warranty replacement. The warranty always continues off the original purchase date. The replacement is to make you whole, not give you a bonus.

I would not recommend asking an auto store employee if the warranty starts over. They will think of you as some type of entitled gold digger, and their answer may be filled with spite, sarcasm, or laughter. Or all three.

3 years for 100% replacement. That’s what I received at 2 years 11 months.

Having a battery fail just before the warranty expires has got to next to ideal circumstances. Assuming the replacement battery lasts the normal 4-5 years, you will get 7-8 years of battery life for the price of one battery. Of course the ideal circumstance would be that the original battery lasted 8+ years. (y)

When they had a pro-rated warranty, it would since the customer participated financially.
That makes sense. You got some of your money back because the battery did not last as long as promised. Now that deal is done, and the new battery is a separate deal.
