Stopped by Autozone during lunch today to get a price on a part for the truck. And as usual had to check for deals.

Not even close:

Seen Maxlife 5.28 qt Jug for $22.00
Synpower - $28.00
Mobil 1 - $30.00
Even the house brand is insane - $13.00 for a no-name oil in a orange can...who makes this stuff-FRAM?

Thats usually why I buy from Walmart, I have never seen excellent sales that matched Walmart prices for oil. I wish I was able to get oil without rebates for cheaper like some others have but up here in North Jersey the chances of a place selling oil inventory cheap is slim.

People walk in all the time and just grab 5 qts of oil and a oil filter and walk out. I just wanna scream "You could get synthetic at Walmart cheaper" Most think motor oil change and think auto parts store, not Walmart. They dont use rebates, closeouts ahhh. Gotta remmember its a game for us, to them its just a chore, can you imagine?

There hard parts are usually the cheapest in town. Such as Brake pads and rotors for my Jeep are cheaper at AutoZone than what I can get from our other suppliers even with my shop discount.

Since it's their business where and how they spend their money, why would you want to scream anything at them? Just because someone chooses something different than you?

As an avid anti-Wal-Mart shopper I fully understand why people wouldn't want to go into a store that lacks any customer service, where employees are surly and rude, and doesn't appreciate my business, even if I have to pay a little more elsewhere. On the other hand, I have no desire to scream at anyone who makes a different chioce.

It was $0.68 for me ..but minimum wages was $1.80 and gas, iirc, was about $0.6x/gallon.

Why, really why would anybody truley, really be anti-Walmart. They stock everything, they give you access 24/7 and they have the cheapest prices. I dont need anyone to tell me "I love you" and take me by the hand and lead me around when I walk though the door. I love the convience, the one stop shopping and the prices, that should be worth a premium, but instead are cheaper. Really anti-Walmart? If they were gone tommarrow, I along with a bazillion other people would miss them, The reason they are the biggest and the most powerful is the reason they DO apprieate the shoppers, in ways I apprieate, better prices, better convienence and better selection, what more do you want? Get a dog, he will follow you around and show you what you may be looking for.

It's still cheaper at Wal-Mart... but my AutoZone has $16 special's on five quarts of some various name-brand 'conventional' with a Fram filter (luckily they let me sub in an STP). They do similar specials on the semi-syns and full-syns for expected price upgrades.

Again, not as cheap as Wal-Mart, but it's pretty close, and not a bad deal for an oil change. Especially for the "Anti-Marts".

My walmart had only overpriced fram filters, and a poor selection of oil at the same price as everywhere else last time I was in, 2 years ago.
For me, the possible savings is outweighed by having to determine just how khrappy almost every product is there, and will it burn down my house at some point...

I remember supertech (at the time called Tech 2000) being .88c/qt every time my dad and I changed the oil on the family cars.

I guess I'm actually starting to get old...

We didn't have Walmart in our area when they had Tech2000 motor oil. How did we live?

Its sad, they have taken over every town around here.

They are my only choice for oil, just because I can get oil and not have to play any games mailing in rebates that may or may not get honored, and waiting ten weeks.

$10-12 dollars buys me a 5 quart jug of plenty of decent oils.

Our local walmart's do not run good closeout deals at all. I am shocked to hear some of the good deals that other people are getting.

I'm not anti-Walmart. I'm anti- plastic. That's just about all I see in Walmart. Aisle upon aisle of plastic. Plastic totes, plastic trashcans, plastic shelves ..plastic televisions, boom boxes, shoes..boots..handbags..

..and people carting it out by the ton.

If building codes would permit, Walmart could corner the market on plastic brick/block and housing could be their next market expansion. Sorta like LEGO's for adults.
