And horsepower is only measured as percentages more than the competition. If competition was VW, the beetle had about 36 horsepower (gross...very gross!) which would be about 20 by today's measure.


It really is amazing how much better the technology is today.

Thanks for posting. James Lileks would do a number on this. He used to do sarcastic commentary critiques of old ads.
 
That $1561 in 1959 would be $11,500 or so today, cheaper than a lot of tiny cars.

How do they compute the $1.00 a day figure? A three-year loan at 1 buck a day would be $1095, a four-year (which would have been unusual then) $1461. Or would that figure obtain once you'd made a $500 down payment?
