Boy, this brings back memories of the early '50's. This could be a picture of me, my sister, and my Mother in our '51 black Chevy. I remember my Mother telling my Dad that she wanted an automatic transmission in her car or else! (She was tired of shifting the "three on the tree".) By the time I was in high school, my Mother insisted all the family vehicles have automatic transmissions including my Father's Jag. (I had to learn to drive a stick in the military.)

Those old power-slides were 2 speed .... slow and slower.

The engine was a 216 ci I6, babbitted rod and main bushings. The 235 introduced in 53 was a way better engine.

Owners of the early versions of these automatics came up with the phrase "Slip and Slide with PowerGlide".
