Location
A Barrier Island
A long time ago I was using a metal detector at a beach on one of the small islands of the archipelago just off Door County, Wisconsin. The island had been a Coast Guard small boat station patrolling Green Bay and northern Lake Michigan. My comrades and I got a returned significant signal several feet below the surface of the sand on the Green Bay side.

We excavated a bit and found the ruins of an old car. After more inspection we discovered the find was an old Essex motor car. We found a badge or nameplate. After an hour or so of digging my companions and I decided since we hadn't discovered some forty million year old unnamed dinosaur species we'd let the rusty wreck lie in peace. I've often wondered how it got there.

I did manage to extract a spark plug from the engine. I think I twisted it off, breaking it. I believe it was a Champion plug and it was huge. I might still have it somewhere. Didn't get any pictures of our 'excavation site'

Might have looked like this one.

Classic Promenade

Just took the ferry across from the peninsula to the island in May. There's a reason that stretch of water is known as "Deaths doorway".

Could be someone drive their vehicle on the beach ages ago, hydrolocked it, or got it stuck. Tow trucks weren’t as common back then so the owner had to leave it there only to be buried under the surf, until you came along.
