Hi friends,
I am relatively new to this forum, so I'll start by asking for your patience if I am in the wrong section.
The situation is this:
Just bought a 2005 Honda CR-V with Honda's 5 speed auto trans. Honda does not put a replacable filter in their transmissions. They just use a fine mesh screen that can not be removed for cleaning. I asked Honda if adding an in-line oil filter would hurt the vehicle or the warranty. Their response was simply "do so at my own risk."
I'm stumped! ATF is as thin (virtually) as water so I wouldn't think there would be much of a pressure drop or increase by running it through a Purolator filter designed to filter far heavier engine oils. But I am not certain of this.
Has anyone else tried doing this with a Honda? Or any other vehicle? Was there any change in transmission performance? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Glen
