Those look good. I need to do the plugs and wires on my 05 4.0 Ranger but it looks like its gonna be a pain. Has anyone ever replaced the plugs on a 4.0? The right side looks impossible to get to.

I replaced the NGK irridiums OEM in my wife's 2004 Toyota RAV4 after 100,000 miles , when i pulled them i were expecting to see some realy [censored] looking plugs but to my amazement they looked new and hardly even worn at the tips, i should have kept them because they are $22 each, but like you i had already bought new plugs at $85 per set.

Plug technology has come a long way ah?

I don't think non-oem would hurt anything, certain plugs will perform differently in certain cars. For some people it works out fine, others experience rough running cars or what not. I ran ACDelco plugs and Champ's in the Impala + Wrangler. The Xterra had OEM NGK plugs and was replaced with NGK G-Power plugs. Runs the same, hoping a bit better mileage wise as I have already replaced other items and my driving habits(which were good to begin with).
