Auro-rx power steering leaks

If you are leaking fluid, make sure to check your hoses. Auto-Rx is not going to repair a leaking hose.

I used 2 ozs in my 2003 G35, drove it 1000 miles and then flushed with Schaeffers #204 S-AT. The seal that was leaking stopped leaking and everything is dried up now. Auto-Rx worked as advertised.

Power Steering Fluid is neglected by many motorists. Couple that with relatively small reservoirs and the placement of such reservoirs have made for power steering leak failures. The location on my wifes Impala is a crime. Tucked behind the motor next to the firewall makes it a real joy just to check the fluid level. A design marvel. What are these people thinking?

What if you add Auto RX to your PS and you just leave it in for 15k miles because you forgot to have it flushed. Any problems?

I would think one would have enough pressence of mind that if they put an ounce in the power steering resevoir, it was for one or two reasons. One being that they were being proactive in maintaining the system and already have it in mind that that the fluid is oild and sould be changed out. ARX merely helps them get a better drain. Second the car owner has never serviced the power steering, might already have a leak and is looking to correct the neglect. In this case, simply following the proceedure can resolve the neglect, without costly repair.

Mr. Polutta, Have you ever checked the fluid resevoir in an 04 Impala equiped with the 3800 series motor? If not take a look at the placement sometime. Then tell me it that is remotely convenient for service.

I would like to comment on a recent application of Auto-rx on a 2000 Pontiac GP with the 3.1 engine. Owner was referred to me through a friend that I had previously helped. He is a German intern at a local factory and bought this car from a previous intern sight-unseen while still over there in Germany. The car has 160k miles on it and I think he paid too much, based on the condition it is in.

He called me thinking he would need head gasket replacement, which I doubted. He actually had a list of concerns, but that was at the top of his list as was the power steering pump whining noise and the erratic steering gear that was hanging up at times while parking the car. He was also having to add fluid and had a small bottle in the trunk.

We determined fairly quickly that there was no head gasket problem, but that the gunk in the overflow tank was either Dex-cool sludge or remnants of a stop-leak. I cleaned the tank thoroughly and then poured in some new coolant. He was relieved that his head gaskets were ok.

Next we discussed the PST fluid. I told him that we could flush the system with new fluid and use a stop-leak to see if anything improves, or we could do better than that and try some ARX. Knowing how expensive it would be to replace the pump or especially the steering gear (rack) he chose the ARX treatment. So I put in 2 oz which brought the level to full and then he left. He called me later after he went to the ARX website and read about the product. He was prompted to do this after he got to his rental house and realized the steering noise and stiffness was totally gone already. He came back later and wanted ARX in the engine and the transmssion. We set up a mileage for him to come back to change/flush the ATF and PST fluid, and a later mileage to change the oil.

Needless to say, but he is very happy about the results so far and how much potential repair expense he has avoided. BTW, it appears his PST fluid leak has stopped already as well.

ARX in power steering is good stuff! The rack in my Buick LeSabre was a bit whiny, so a little bit was added in. 800 miles later it's nearly silent. I'm hoping to see a silent rack by the 1000 mile mark.

And yes, it's a royal pain to change. A vacuum pump has been most helpful so far!

Some times you can save someone a bundle and the value in avoided costs is 100% apparent. It's like most things, if it's not causing you issue, it's not on your mind. Just a little preemptive care and someone could have the happiness of saying that they experienced nothing ....which is a curious situation for Auto-Rx

For the power steering, would most results already be noticed during the cleaning phase or only once its flushed ? I have already noticed it has slightly improved my power steering. I have also gained at least 1.0 litres per 100k's on my engine during clean phase. I am 300km short of draining for both.

I did it twice in my powersteering

The 1st time it turned the fluid dark, changed it and still had a little noise but it was easier to turn the wheel.

The 2nd time I did it, the noise totally stopped, then again I have 365,000 miles so the powersteering definetly needed another cleaning.
