Are you waiting in line for black Friday yet?

I'm not waiting. I believe it was last year the Wal-Mart I shop at lost an employee, he was trampled to death. I'll shop online, or pass I don't need anything that bad.

That is soooo idiotic and wrong I don't even have words for it.

Camping out NINE DAYS, just to buy cheap Chinese-made electrical and computer goods?

Yeah, North America is REALLY in control of it's destiny - nope, when people are doing this, it shows the power China has over the way NA's run their lives.

That ISN'T an exagerration!

No longer anything worth doing this over.

Used to be electronics were expensive luxury goods. I got a couple needed computers this way back when an entry level machine was normally $1000, and before BF had a name. Talking 1997-2002. I "only" had to get in line at around 3 am to score the doorbusters.

Waited years... Years! for an HDTV and after a disappointing BF a couple years back got one in January when the stores were all hung over and desperate.

There is no electronic, computer, or appliance over $500 that will get reduced more than $150 or so, so it's completely not worth it.

Small knick knacks bought online are how to BF now.

As a circus though it's still fun to attend. You can bring booze in a Dunkin Donuts cup and noone will catch on. Also the startled look on cops' faces as they cruise from parking lot to lot is priceless. People are chatty and the wind tunnel created by store walls is a great way to check out your winter gear for proper warmth before the winter season really kicks in.

I would not wait in line a single day for ANYTHING made ANYWHERE. Much less 9 days...

Has nothing to do with China. Interesting you went there.

(and sadly this thread will get locked up when it goes straight to the bashing)

KMart has the $139.99 7" Android Tablet, looks pretty nifty.

Not getting up on my day off at 3am to wait in line til 5am. eCost.com has these, once they go on sale there, maybe I'll pick one up.

Oh, that "internet" thing again.

My wife wanted to go to States for Black Friday, she's the type to jump on any sale, whether we need the goods or not, I said NO WAY, we don't need more junk, plus an ordeal like that usually costs me a lot since she wants to load up on stuff because it's cheap. I bet the boarder will be jam packed with people that want to "save" money.

I feel that these events end up costing an average family far more that if they just bought goods as needed. Most will never research the prices and just trust the 70% off (or whatever) banner displayed in the window. They just think they're saving money.

Smart shoppers can save a ton of money on a well researched item that they watched for several months and know the price is truly a good deal. Majority are not in the same boat, I bet if I was I shop owner and had an item for $10 on regular days and just put a big [censored] banner saying it's now 70% off, but still costs $10, nobody would notice.

I honestly do not see anything I'd want. I've browsed all the ads. I may try to get a few things, but nothing big, and nothing I'd break a leg over. Sears has jumpers cables for 50% off. Assuming there are still "Made in the USA", I may grab a set.

Last year I tried to get a digital camcorder from WalMart. Of course I didn't. However, on Cyber Monday, they had a better deal online -- with free case, + same price as black friday.

+1 to what Bill said.

No low cost product is important enough to blow 9 days of my time.

I won't be doing any shopping on black Friday. I'll be enjoying myself with family.

AMEN. LMAO!! Totally true w/ the banner. People just get some weird satisfaction out of finding a "deal". I guess I'm guilty too sometimes.

There are lots of things I'd wait in line for a day for a good deal, it would come down to $$$ saved/hour though...
$5K off a new car I was going to get anyways, sure I'd camp out for a day or two. $100 off a TV, that gets a couple hours max...

I have in all my adult years, ventured out one time on the Friday after Thanksgiving to shop. I vowed then to never, ever do that again. Keep in mind this was over 20 years ago that I did this.

It's crazy.

Anyway, I usually wait until the last minute to go out and buy for Christmas if I need too. I always buy my wife's gifts online.

I work nights. Thanksgiving is one of the few days/nights a year i get to drink and eat to excess. The chances of me putting on shoes before noon BF is 50/50. The gift card to first xx people thru the door at certain stores is tempting but I'll let it go for a good nights sleep.

As far as walk-in retail Target seems to have come way down on TV's. If you don't mind a floor model there are deals to be had that way too. Just do your research as every company has a model that is off by a number of another store, so just get the features and size narrowed down first.

Search the net and save tax. Most Black Friday deals are low end junk.

When the housing market in So Cal was hot in 2004-2006, many people camped out up to a week or two for the new development. They got their names on buyers list and turn around sold it for a profit up to $50-100k.

For that kind of money, I understand why someone willing to spend a week or two waiting for the opening.
