Are you all changing oil on cars not driven?

I changed the oil in my vehicles, they were due. I have had to travel to a different metro this week and will drive back to the house soon. The good news is I am getting gas for 1.19 a gallon, that's also some bad news.

I've been noticing that in the past 6-8 weeks, I'm offsetting cheap gas prices by switching to 93 octane. So instead of paying 1.39 for 87 octane, I'm paying 2.09 for 93 octane Shell

When prices go back up, I'll switch back to 87. One thing I never buy is mid-grade 89 octane. Too many crooked, dishonest gas station owners around that can electronically mess with the octane number blending inside the store. They can give us 87 octane and we pay 30-35 cents more for it.

Triple_Se7en, if you're so worried about the blending being off, how do you know the 87 and 93 octane fuels are as placarded?

How exactly does that work? Far as I know there is a separate underground tank for each octane gas. You would have to tear up the pavement and splice pipes around to do that. Much easier to just put 87 into the 93 tank but you would have to payoff the tanker driver.

Many (most?) pumps are blending pumps and there is not a separate mid-grade tank.
 
Even synthetics degrade over time due to oxidation, moisture, etc. the additives may slow degradation down but it still occurs. If you aren't hitting the mileage mark but coming up on the recommended time you should still change the oil. Combustion contaminants, moisture...

Mainly two underground tanks for gas. One for premium and one for regular. They are controlled electronically inside the business.

Also, most-all gas stations in this area are managed & owned by folks born in the Middle East. We have either the largest community, or the 2nd largest community in the USA.
They also own most-all of the party stores and I was in the beer business for 35 years. So I knew many of them by name and patronized with them plenty.

I know how they run their businesses and things they often do are not always honest. They will flat-out say that their business is unlike their religion and the two never intersect.
They are fantastic people in conversations outside of their business. I miss them dearly since retiring. I saw more of them than my brothers and sisters..... many twice a week.

No it doesn't. That's been discussed here at length, without the ongoing inflow of the products of combustion further degradation does not occur.

Same with me. I have 2 other cars that i drive occasionally and i always change the oil every 6 months. I'm actually changing the oil on one of them this weekend. Going with mobil 1 EP 5w30 again. IIRC, i only have about 2450 or so miles on that oil interval. Still changing it.
 
This is an absolutely ridiculous post that disparages a class of people for no reason whatsoever. You have no evidence it is occurring at all. None.

Learned something new! Did know in some/most cases there are only 2 tanks.

So unlike oil viscosity, does the math work with the octane?
e.g. If do a %50/50 of 87/93 do you get 90?
You know like if you mix 5W20 and 10W30 you won't get 7.5W25 or do you?

Also out of curiosity aren't the valves and the flow controlled, calibrated or inspected by authorities or the state? I assume there is no way a cashier can play with the controls. No?
 
Yes, tried Maxlife 10W-40 in my Escort, well happy with it, noticeably quieter than before.
Which makes sense as a i saw a VOA where it showed a good amount of Moly, Phosphorous and Zinc.

My usual driving is about 40 miles of doing 80 and then 15 miles of stop and go. Right now I'm not driving at all.

Think I have Valvoline ful syn 0w20 in there now.


Seems like perfect conditions for a 10k run, if not longer!

Now that we've moved closer to everything, my commute is only 11 miles, with around 6.5 of those miles at 60 MPH on the highway. My wife's usual driving pattern is even worse.
