Anything better than Motocraft FL-820S?

Test parameters?

Data was from Ford/manufacturer when they shortened the filter 1/4".

Parameters and test repeatability are reasons I don't take data seriously.

Don't know or care. Motorcraft doesn't publish its data anymore, and don't remember their test parameters.

And, Amsoil data is how old? Obsolete. But some will still quote it 20 years from now.

Now, lets get back to the OPs question instead of spinning every thread in useless info and measurement fights.

No one is fighting and the information I posted is fully relevant to the OPs question. Lighten up a little...

I would guess that ANY synth media filter would do better.

Except for the WIX XP or NAPA Platinum (50% @ 20 microns).

It's all on the graph. ISO 4548-12 test spec and done in 2011, not really that old.

Didn't we have posts on here about the 820S having holes in the media? I thought I had seen it on here?????

I had one with a large hole in the media. I also had a FL-400s with torn pleats.

A member here...I want to say Jim Allen?...did some tests (or published some research) that indicated filters may not be as critical as we give them credit for.

With that said, I don't see how you can do "better" than the MC FL820S for an engine which specifies it. Ex's 2003 Mercury Marauder (not the one in my sig) has used that filter for every one of its 195,xxx miles and that motor is spotless inside and uses less than 1 qt per 5,000-mile OCI.

Also, and sorry in advance for being pedantic, can everyone please stop calling it a "silicon" ADBV? It's silicone...

Yes, I am one of the grammar and spelling police...my father was the Chief.

Been using the FL820S for years on my Fords. Currently almost 140k on my Mustang with the FL820s 80%+ of the time. Truck uses a smaller version, the FL500S and for longer intervals.

Cut a couple with happy findings. I don't have the fancy jig, so its a lot of mess and a lot of work otherwise I'd cut more.
