Hello,

if we can find it at a great price, we are not unlikely to use BASF Glysantin G30 in some Cummins and International engines. Zerex G30 sold in the U.S. is exactly the same formula. It even has a Detroit-Diesel approval, so it can't be that bad at all. Though, some input from BITOG members would be desired, thanks.

Has any of you experienced some cooling system leaks after changing to G30 or similar non 2-EHA OAT coolants?

Does it form a waxy coating on metal surfaces, like 2-EHA OATs do?

The G30 as you likely know was developed for aluminum engines. Most heavy duty diesels are not of aluminum construction. However, the G30 does carry the approval of MAN (324-SNF), Mercedes-Benz (DBL 7700-30/325.3), and MTU (MTL 5048).

The G30 should be good for up to 300,000 miles (500,000 Km's) in a heavy duty truck. The required maintenance would be simply to do a additive replenishment which would take the fill up to 1,000,000 Km's before a drain and replacement would be due.

Personally, I would use the G-05 in a heavy duty truck over the G-30. It is a HOAT containing nitrites which has been shown to be effective at reducing corrosion commonly found in diesel engine cooling systems.

I'd leave the G30 for the small car engines.
