hey all i want to change out my air filter and after doing some reading seems the honda oem is pretty good and seems like it comes lightly oiled. vehicle is a 2014 acura rdx and even tho its a honda engine seems like the air filter isn't very common unless im wrong

was just wondering if anyone found an aftermarket filter that was just as good as honda or better?

i know theres a ton of them just hard to see which is good or better, the reason i ask is stopping at the dealer and getting ripped off or ordering online and waiting just seems like alot of hassle for a air filter

would rather just pick one up somewhere local

fram ultra from walmart is my go to for my personal vehicles now.

I've used Honda OEM, and it's ok. I've also used Denso and Bosch Workshop, and those were/are fine too. The one thing I've noticed about aftermarket, want to make sure the depth of pleats top to bottom (looking from AF side) the same or close. Some aftermarket AFs for Honda I've looked at not as deep as OEM. The Honda OEM AF I installed recently HERE didn't seem as oiled as others I've installed. Oh, and AAP Carquest Premium I installed recently on 3.5L Honda, also a quality AF. All the aftermarket I mentioned have similar to OEM pleat/media depth.

**update **

got the acura oem one from amazon, my bad. i usually check amazon but this time the part # was formatted differently so it didnt pop up easy. was $27 honda oem (unless its a fake) but yeah pretty happy with it

Buying from my local dealer's parts department doesn't seem like a rip off. Just bought two OEM filters, yesterday. $29.25 and $30.25 for a '22 Ody and '21 CR-V 1.4Lturbo. I could definitely get a cheaper aftermarket filter, but sticking with OEM at that price seemed fine.

Also nice to pick up a few oil plug crush washers for $0.63 each while there.

I'm using WIX in my '17 Civic. Can't see paying $30 for an air filter, when quality aftermarket are half the price, or less. And speaking of less, I found two WIX on Amazon Warehouse for $8 each. If there is anything wrong with them, I can't tell. Most likely, someone just bought the wrong model.

More power to you if you can find high quality filters that cheap from a trustworthy source. Call me a chump, but I do most of my shopping at big box stores. All the comparable aftermarket filters were in the mid-$20s. Granted, with discounts they can be cheaper.

Maybe next time I'll go Rock Auto? Actually, I did get cheaper cabin air filters there. But I don't believe they had Honda OEM engine air filters.

Honda oil filters, the ones offered in the USA, are known to be same as common orange can Fram's. A nothing special filter, despite Honda branding. I haven't gone down the rabbit hole regarding the air filters, but there is nothing to indicate Honda air filters unique in any way.
