I bought some pretty strong magnets cheap on Amazon. I put 6 of them on. Think this is overkill? I figure it couldn’t hurt right?

I used to but figured it was a waste, the media should catch any iron, all the other materials won't stick to a magnet anyways

Over kill is under appreciated. Who has worn out a properly maintained vehicle ?

No magnets for me. The filter doing its job takes care of what a magnet does and does it better.

Don't forget you also need to put wooden clothespins on the fuel line to prevent vapor lock.

I did it years ago on other cars, but my truck has a cartage type filter, so I bought a drain plug with a large magnet on it.

Not really ... the filter can't catch most of the ferrous particles that a magnet can catch.

What the filter doesn't catch is mostly smaller than the lubrication film thickness.
There are many moving componets in and engine that have basically zero MOFT ... those that are in the boundary & mixed lubrication realms, like cams lobes and rings.

I do on most filters if I think about it. I use old hard drive magnets just one the dome end of the filter.
Every filter I have put them on had a little bit of ferrous material on them, and was very fine. No idea if the filter media would have filtered it or not.
Also no idea if they make any difference at all.

I figure it can’t hurt anything. Just a little added time sliding them on/off lol. If they use magnets on drain plugs and tranny pans, so why not. I see alot of videos where they did actually catch stuff. And they’re dirt cheap/reusable too!

I forgot to transfer the magnet to the replacement transmission pan I bought.
Yes, I feel stupid, thank you.
Super neodymium magnets (I had lying around) to the outside of the pan for the reasons listed in post #18.
