I just got the fantastic job of maintaining my Grandpa's 98 Lincoln Continental...

It's currently doing the ARX cleaning phase with ST:)

I was wondering if the 4.6L V8 in it was prone to any bad things?? Or are there some crappy factory parts that I should inspect regularly?? It has 36k miles on it right, and usually is driven at the rate of 4k mi/year right now!!

After the rinse phase, I'm planning on running M1 5W-30 in it with probably a yearly OCI...that's good, right??

Thanks guys!

The modular ford engines are some of the most durable v8 engines ever made. The 4.6 in the crown vics regularly see 400K+ in very heavy duty useage.

Devote way more attention to the trans fluid than the engine oil.

4.6 Ford v8's are very robust and durable engines.

The early 4.6's were prone to valvr seal leakage, but that was fixed apparently by 98, although I think the 98 4.6's had that plastic intake manifold crossover that was prone to cracking, hopefully the Continental has had it replaced by now.

Well, the reason for Mobil 1 is that it mainly just sees very short trips, even throughout the winter.

I want the stability and cleanliness of M1 in there, since cost isn't a factor.

I believe it calls for 5W-30, but I'll have to double-check I guess.
