I have a 2008 Saturn Outlook running the 3.6 V-6 NON DI engine. Is the GM NON DI 3.6 also hard on oil and does it have any of the other isses with the engine thay i have read the DI version has? I have run Mobil 1 5w30 oil about 7500 miles between changes and the OLM says usually around 30-35% remaining. The oil seems pretty black also. I have run the regular Mobil 1 5w30 , AFE 0w30 and i am running the Extended Mobil 1 5w30 now. From what i have read i may have gotten a better engine without the DI only time will tell.

Non DI 3.6L engines, especially the earlier 07-08 ones, have had issues with the timing chains failing at a low mileage. Check on the GMC Acadia forum.

I have an 09 outlook and love it! We on BITOG tend to over anylize everthing. You statement about "only time will tell" is very true. I just plan on doing OC intervals at 50% OLM and doing a TB cleaning every year and should sleep well at night.
I also us FP+ in the gas and a maintenance dose of RX in the oil
using a good group 3 oil with a low NOAK value.

Only issue that I have had with mine, is that little rocks get stuck in the poorly designed out dew wipes and the windows scratch when going up and down. GM actually just replace 3 or the 4 side windows and all 4 outer dew wipes on mine at no cost to me. Other than that, zero issues for me. 23mpg on highway and AWD in the Dakota winters is nice too!

The failure rate is low though. All the 3.5 / 3.6 / 3.9's are prone to UIM/LIM gasket failures(3.9's more so than the other two). But only certain years are affected(first year runs.)

I have a Cadillac CTS with the 3.6 vvt NON DI and I love it! The only problem so far was a startup rattle in the morning and that rattle changed for a load throttle rattle and it turns out it was the timing chain that was stretched too much.

Other than this, the engine is still strong and still doing my 0-60 in about 6.5-7 secs, still getting 33 mpg on highway and 25 mpg mix city/highway and my engine has 142 000 miles.

You can check in the used oil analysis section, I've posted a couple of times the results at full OLM depletion and the results was good I guess!

If I were you, I would to an analysis at 50% and change the oil there. Once you'll have the result, do a 75% run and after that, its up to you!
