Any cons to using 0W-20 instead of 5W-20?

I rechecked my owners manual for my Mazda 6 2.0 and the oil they recommend for Greece is 5W-20 API SL/ILSAC GF-III or 5W-30 API SJ/ACEA A1 or A3. Temperature in the summertime in Greece can go as high as 42 C (110 F). In the winter I seldom see anything below -5 C (20 F). 1. Will the 20 weight oil cover me, or should I go with the 30 weight? I drive hard and red line is reached often. 2. Is there any difference if instead of 5W - 20 and 5W-30 I use 0W - 20, or 0W -30 such as the Fuchs Titan GT1 and Aral oil? 3. What is the ILSAC classification? [Confused]

1. The 20-weights seem to be working well, even in severe conditions, in engines designed for that weight. Try both weights and do oil analysis to see if one has lower wear than another. 2. There's not much difference. An engine spec'ed for 5w-XX can take 0w-XX. Since there is no lower limit for pumping and cranking viscosity in the SAE "W" designations, 0w also qualifies for the 5w designation. 3. The International Lubricant and Standarization Committee.

I recall reading somewhere that mobil 1 0w20 can be used in any application calling for 5w20 The same is most likely true for Fuchs. In my opinion the 0w20's is probably better quality than the 5w20s. I've used the 0w20 m1 here in texas with similar temperatures, it worked fine, I own a honda though....

Yes, you can buy 0W-20, such as the Fuchs I mentioned above. You can find pretty much everything as far as oil is concerned here, but it is expensive. For example a quart of Aral 0W-30 is sold for 14 Euro or about 17 USD! Same for Mobil1.

We recently bought a (slightly) used 2003 Taurus 3.0 that calls for 5w-20. I recently changed it and put in Mobil 1 0w-20. I will send the old oil in to Blackstone, assuming it it Motorcraft 5w-20 since the car was bought at a Ford dealer and the oil looked new when we got it, but I don't know for sure. Then I'll get a UOA on the M1 after 5k. We'll see. Not as hot here as Greece though.

Dont count on the dealer using what they spec. I would bet they used a bulk 10W-30
