I have seen Skynyrd so many times since the 70s and then again once they started again I lost count long ago. Same thing with the Florida Guitar Army (The OUTLAWS) whose members were in and out of Skynyrd too over the years. I will not pay to see what is now touring under the name Skynyrd these days. That is simply just a "cover band." They have the original drummer Rickey Medlocke (former Blackfoot guitarist/singer) and Johnny VanZant singing and a bunch of fill in players. No Thanks.“Hold On Loosely” makes me think back to the coming of age flick that I loved, “Spring Break.” Loved Skynyrd too![]()
I was amazed at the show we just saw in June how very good and tight they still can play for some of those guys being in their 70s.“Hold On Loosely” makes me think back to the coming of age flick that I loved, “Spring Break.” Loved Skynyrd too![]()
Never saw that one. Is it comedy or more other.....?“Hold On Loosely” makes me think back to the coming of age flick that I loved, “Spring Break.” Loved Skynyrd too![]()
It was absolutely fantastic. Doug has so much energy for a 72 year old and still has the voice. My wife got one of his guitar picks during Hold on Loosely. We saw .38 Special in Biloxi, Ms around June 1st I think. Second time seeing them play since about 2010. Great show.
It was very strange I had a business trip to MS. I decided to fly out of Birmingham, and on the way back, the sign at the border said, “Sweet Home Alabama.” It set off about a 1 year period in my life where I was listening to and learning all I could about the band, after about literally 40 years. It was crazy what I did not know from childhood about the band….and really sad how short of a time Ronnie had…I have seen Skynyrd so many times since the 70s and then again once they started again I lost count long ago. It was an adolescent film of the time, Roger Ebert blasted it. Hold on Loosely was on the soundtrack….Never saw that one. Is it comedy or more other.....?
Some shows can be tough when it is bands without lots of money as I can tell a big difference in the shows. When some of these older bands who never made lots of cash use the "house" sound guys... woof! Those shows can sound awful. I have seen some amazing shows in last ten years where the bands who can afford it travel with their own sound crew. Bands like Doobie Brothers / Blue Oyster Cult / Steve Miller Band / Peter Frampton (who I believe is done - disabled and unable to play much anymore) Blackberry Smoke , Duanne Betts etc....I used to go to a bunch of rock concerts back in the day, but not so much since getting married and having kids. My oldest is now 18 and he's been dragging me to a few lately.
Saw Tool last October. It was a good show but I was a little disappointed that they skipped many of their big hits.
Saw Primus at a small outdoor venue. It was cool being so close to them, and Les Claypool is an absolute ninja on the bass. It was fun to see.
Went to Foo Fighters about a month ago-outdoor ball park. Got rained on, but it was worth it! Amazing show.
Saw Metallica at indoor football stadium. My kid bought cheap tickets ($50) 3 days before the show-way up in the rafters. Sat through Wolfgang Van Halen and Pantera as openers. Sound was a mushy echoey mess way up there. Before Metallica me and my kid snuck down to some lower level seats that were open- 4th row up from the field. We were sure we'd eventually get kicked out, but somehow we didn't. Great seats and the sound was about 10 times better down there. It was a good time!
