Adding to what said about gtx... I wouldn't hesitate to run Edge with Ti if I could get my hands on it. Funny how they have GTX with bottom shelf TBN and edge with top of the line stuff. They are really covering the market from cheap 3,000 mile drains to super extended drains.

I've used Castrol products since the 1970's. From GTX to Edge, I find that they have performed as well as any other oil I've used. I've always changed out the oil at factory change specifications though. Never really pushed the limits on the oil.

not bad, but I always prefered the simple, clean lines of valvolines bottles myself:)

That's interesting because personally I can't stand any of Valvoline's packaging haha.

I am running Castrol 0w20 and Castrol Mercon V. Was able to get both on sale, and both have operated well in my application.

But they have American flags on their 5 qt jugs and this is Merica!

Ive used GTX or Magnatec a few times but never Edge. In Australia, Castrol has a huge presence in the market and it's always the brand you can get on special. It's like our Mobil 1 at Walmart in the US.

There just happens to be a 40% off sale this Monday on the Edge range so I might just have to get some!

GTX10W30 is all that's been in the engine, 213800 miles.

My father used Castrol conventional in every car he had from the 70s to the 1990s. He used it because 70s and 80s Castrol commercials advertised that it was made for compact cars with engines that needed to be revved high. He had a 1971 Toyota Corolla, 1979 Toyota Corrola, 1987 Hyundai Excel, and a 1992 Nissan Sentra where he only used Castrol conventional.

Also, when he did DIY oil changes to mom's car, he used Castrol conventional. Back then, mom had a 1985 Nissan Maxima, with an engine that didn't have to be pushed hard.

After dad was no longer able to DIY oil changes, I used Castrol in every engine that used conventional oil.

In my Mitsu, I have only used synthetic Castrol.

Here is one with very low TBN after a short run in a Ford 5.4, very alarming

That doesn't mean you can't find a good UOA for Castrol but you asked. The problem is most people don't uoa a budget lube.

That would go along with my experience in the late 80s (although formulation has almost certainly changed since then). When using castrol I would notice a drop in mpg and power after only 2-3000 miles. Power reduction was easy to notice in a 95 hp stock engine, as at the time I was traveling the same highway route through the mountains of Western MD and WV for 300 miles each way at least once a month. An oil change with no other modifications would return the power and mpg. Once I switched to Valvoline conventional, oil lasted much longer.

I've used a lot of Castrol GTX in my vehicles over the years, but honestly it is because it is often the house oil of a change place, or it is on a good sale when I am due for a change.

That said, I have always gotten good service out of GTX...low consumption, and clean engines from what I can see.

I use primarily Sopus products but became an instant "fan" of Castrol when Autozone recently had gold bottle Edge with Ti 5w-20 for $3/qt.

Castrol has always been my least favorite mainstream brand. Their current oils are very good though.

Castrol doesn't have a bad rep here.
Gold bottle Edge has always been well regarded, as has GC.
Most black bottle Edge (really Syntec) oils are regarded as no better then okay, fair or not.
GTX has always been okay with those who run it.
I've used it with no complaints.
The main rap on GTX is that it's usually offered at a premium price and is no more than a mainstream OTS oil.
Why pay more to get something that isn't any better?
OTOH, we could say that about many oils if we were honest about it.

We use Either Chevron or Castrol full line products in all cars, trucks etc and work and I think all the products from both companies are very good. The heavy duty products from Chevron are much more available than Castrol but I would not say Delo or Tection Extra would concern me as to one over the other in any diesels. Delo grease and Pyroplex Blue act very similar in use. The only product Castrol has over Chevron is Power Steering fluid and Brake fluid but Chevron has Techron. It is hard to go wrong with any thing Castrol sells overall.
