Buy a California home that is already handicap accessable by design; avoid unsightly handicap ramp:

Humour aside, my dad lost the use of his legs suddenly, so has to do everything in a wheelchair, and can't drive. This sort of thing could happen to anyone. It's imo a good idea to keep wheelchair and basic amenities access in mind when chosing a residence....
Very sorry for the loss of your Dad's legs.

Their is a insider joke to this message, I have posted numerous times on BITOG how beneficial homes be built for handicap access as part of the original design.

it becomes more important with an ever ageing population, and more people living single imo.

Now wheelchair access does help burglars, they can cart loot out more easy than carry it....

I've built a few ramps and garage extended steps with hand rails in my time. A little wood can change a person's life!

Our son is disabled so single story living was very important to us when we were shopping a few years ago. Plus, who knows, we like to think we'll be spry until dead. Prior owner had a number of handicap grab bars installed so much of the work has already been done.
